The Sons (formerly known as Father & Sons) are brothers: Don, Josh and Jake Pancho, a 3 piece Rock band based in Auckland that play decades of Rock & Roll History. Born and raised in Whangarei, the boys are the sons of Albert & Menchie who were a reputable duo from the Philippines, brought over to NZ in the early 80s by the Lion Breweries to play all over the country.
Growing up in a musical family, the brothers picked up instruments at an early age, and were soon promoted from roadies, and joined their parents on stage as their backing band. By the age of 11, Jake was already the lead guitarist of Mum & Dad's band and calling the shots on stage.
For 12 years Father & Sons has played up and down the country from Russell to Wanaka while the boys really evolved their sound from Nu’ Metal to Classic Rock. Gaining some attention from classic rock enthusiasts Father & Sons played for a number of Harley Davidson anniversary events, and were brought over to Singapore to perform at the Unilever Global Conference. Father & Sons were the resident band at The Claddagh in Newmarket, The Clare Inn, The New Brew, and the Barrell Inn for a decade before Dad unfortunately suffered a stroke in early 2020 and was forced to retire for his health & safety.
The brothers quickly grew into their own sound without Mum & Dad as a Hard Rock and Metal trio and moved across the ditch, hitting festivals all over Australia such as Woodstock Brisbane, Schoolies and The Brisbane Ekka, and playing every pub down the coast from Brisbane to Tasmania. Fronting for some big names such as Jimmy Barnes, Rose Tattoo, and The Angels. One thing they definitely picked up from Aussie was volume, Aussies like their rock LOUD!
Later on they traced their roots back to their “motherland” the Philippines playing the nationwide Oktoberfest festivals and introducing them to some western rock. The boys were signed by Universal Records under a new label that didn't quite know what they were doing, and after some severe creativity arguments, things went south and the album was cancelled.
After several years of touring, they returned home to NZ settle down for a while, go back to Uni and work simple day jobs. However it wasn’t long till the stage called them back and they joined Dad once again as Father & Sons.
After a bit of a break, Jake playing mainly solo acoustic sets and exploring streaming online as the live music scene kind of caught covid and died, they decided to take on 2021 and go on without their father and “Leader of the Band” as just The Sons with Jake taking over as the front man.
Now armed with a hugely diverse repertoire of Rock & Roll spanning every decade, The Sons have taken their Nu’ Rock & Roll sound to the likes of the Kumeu Hot Rod Festival and the famous Repco Beach Hop. The Sons are one of the few NZ bands who always have some new tricks up their sleeve and don’t just “play the same sh*t every f#%&n time”… unless of course the crowd begs for it (wink wink sound of silence, wink wink highway to hell).
The Sons certainly put on a show
that almost always ends with the crowd begging for encores.
